Dec 5: first full day in Maui
The condo at Kahana Reef
is very close to the ocean (about 50 feet), and it was windy last night, so the waves were noisy, and one of us had trouble sleeping (not moi). We're on the third floor of the condo, here is the view from the balcony of our condo (looking west, the island of Molokai in the distance.)
Today we went north of the condo along the coastline, went down to a beach with the intent of wading, and the water was cold and turbulent due to the wind.
So we did a little more hiking along Dragon's Teeth, some old volcanic rock.
We then went to Lahaina, a busy tourist area to our south. We had lunch at the Cool Cat Cafe
and ate some extremely tasty burgers, topped off by a warm brownie sundae (we are indulging ourselves!), looked at the famous Banyon Tree (largest in the US) across the street which was planted nearly 150 years ago, has 16 major trunks, and covers about 2/3 acre.
We returned to the condo to enjoy a spectacular sunset as it sank behind the island of Lanai
while sipping a local brew
